The Value of Sharing Your Experiences
You’re not in the business of re-inventing the wheel. So, if others are doing something well, you want to know how they’re doing it so you too can be successful. It’s important to learn from your own mistakes, but it’s easier and more effective if you’re able to learn from the experiences, mistakes and successes of others.
Learning from others helps you to more quickly enact new processes and programs that help to reduce credit losses, streamline operations, increase sales and improve customer service.
How are you to learn from others’ experiences unless they have willingly shared those experiences? The answer, in most cases, is that you would not be made aware of those lessons. Somebody has to step out and share.
There is no more qualified teacher of credit professionals than YOU! Your experience is valuable. Your employer recognizes that, which is why they have entrusted you with their business. So, why not pay it forward and share your knowledge with others? Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” Don’t keep it bottled up, share your experience and help a fellow credit professional.
Shared experiences are most valuable when they include details in the story. For instance if you've found that a particular report is successful when used in particular situations, it's helpful to note that use case, as opposed to simply saying, "I used this report and it was helpful."
BCR has recently launched a new product review engine. Since most of the BCR's products have few or no reviews, this is a perfect opportunity for you to share your experience with those products.
The way you can help others the most is by being specific. For example, if you use Advantage Pro on credit lines over $10,000 or Clue Reports on credit lines under $1,000, that's useful information. If you sell to doctors and have successfully improved your metrics by using the Business Owner Profile, tell your story!
